Two friends. One shared idea. A simpler way to bed.
Some businesses begin with a business plan. Ours began with a familiar question: why does something as comforting as bed come with so much effort?
We’re Peter and Steven, the friends behind Straight to Bed. We came to that question from different directions, but ended up wanting the same thing: bedding that feels good to come home to and is easier to live with.
Years of experience. Nights of frustration.
For one of us, beds and bedding had been part of life for as long as he could remember. Formal training led to nearly 17 years working in the industry: learning about materials, construction and the small details that shape how a bed feels.
For the other, the subject was more personal. Nights spent feeling too hot. Waking up again just as sleep had finally arrived. And, during years of single life, very little enthusiasm for wrestling a duvet into its cover or making the bed afterwards.
Between us, we had plenty of experience with bedding — both understanding it and being frustrated by it. We started asking what we could change to make the everyday experience better.
Because changing the bed is never just changing the bed.
We had watched our grandparents struggle with the lifting, reaching and pulling that changing a duvet cover demands. A routine chore can become a considerable effort when strength and mobility are no longer what they were.
And as dads, we both knew the other version of that struggle: a little one’s night-time accident, a sleepy child who needs comforting and a bed that needs changing before anyone can settle again. At that hour, getting the corners of a duvet into place is the last thing you want to think about.
Those moments stayed with us. They reminded us that bedding belongs in real homes, with busy mornings, interrupted nights and people who already have enough to do.
Less wrestling. More winding down.
We founded Straight to Bed with the ambition to improve that experience. We drew on years of industry knowledge, looked closely at the bedding already available and began developing our own approach to comfort and everyday practicality.
The one-piece duvet sits at the heart of that idea: bringing the duvet and its outer fabric together, so there is no separate duvet cover to wrestle into place. A simpler routine, built around the way people actually use their beds.
Our aim was to bring together the things we cared about: a comfortable feel, thoughtful construction and less fuss when it is time to make the bed. Every design decision comes back to a straightforward question: will this make bedtime easier?
From our homes to yours.
We created Straight to Bed for people across the UK who want their bed to be a place to unwind. For parents facing another unexpected change of bedding. For anyone tired of the duvet-cover struggle. And for those who simply want to finish the day with one less chore.
We cannot promise that life will stop waking you up. But we can keep working towards bedding that makes getting ready for bed simpler.
That is why we started. And it is what keeps us going.
